Metrics and Analytics: lj 2

     I thought this was interesting, because of my marketing degree I can see the benefits of such a highly effective and efficient system but as a person it is scary to know you can find out almost everything about me. Funny story actually, I was working with a new co-worker  a few weeks ago and I struck up a conversation to get to know them. Of course we share names and hobbies, then they ask if they can google me, so I say "sure," within seconds they can tell me my sister's names and where I was born. They go off on a list of things I didn't even know were available online, they found the day I had surgery and when I got out from recovery. All that power at the tip of their hands, scary. I can see how this might help businesses better connect to the people they serve. In marketing you always want to categorize who you serve and why they want your product, what ways does it benefit them. Algorithms make finding your target audience that much easier, cause it is all at the push of a button. But on the other side of the spectrum is viewing this from the point of view as an individual. 

    An individual sees the issues with privacy and protecting that privacy. One of my favorite stories that represent the duality of individual and business is there is an interview between Sen Dick Durbin of Illinois and Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Metaverse. In the interview Durbin asks Zuckerberg if he  "would be comfortable sharing the name of the hotel you stayed in last night?". After a long pause Zuckerberg responds with a simple "No,". This may seem like an odd question with an obvious answer but it brings up the issue of personal privacy and how much social media companies are allowed to take from your use of the app. I tend to allow companies full use of my location and access to camera and microphone. I don't have anything to hide and do not care much for privacy, it is crazy to know that my information is being sold but there is no help to avoid it so why worry about it. I understand that this puts me at more of a risk for hacking and information leaks but  honestly there are so many preventative measures and ways to avoid it, I don't spend much time worried.

Hands on assignment 2

 In my own words I would define social media as a modern way to have social interactions and act as  part of a community, whether those communities be work related or hobby related social media allows us to interact with who we want, when we want. Social networking is the community you create that can be branched back to you whether that be through sports, video games, or Tik Tok. 

    I use a few different social medias; Instagram, Twitter, facebook, Linked In, Tik Tok. Those are the main big ones that I use. Instagram is the one I use the most, this is where I follow pages that I like such as anime, woodworking, and sports. But I also use instagram to connect with coworkers and old friends. Twitter I use for sports, news, and financial market updates because it tends to be the most quickly updated site for that. Link In is specifically for work and networking with people I went to school with. I also use it for training and keeping track of certificates I have completed. Last but not least Tik Tok, I use Tik Tok to burn free time in between work or school. It is probably what I spend the most hours on but with the least gaol driven thing. I use pretty much all of them everyday but I mainly use instagram or Tik Tok. 

    Using my social media helps me feel connected to my friends and those who I cannot see everyday. I love seeing pictures of my friends from high school with their kids or getting married. Posting the happiest moments in their lives or even just updating us about what they've been doing. As for me social media makes me feel connected and closer to events that happen around the world, we are able to consume so much in such a short amount of time, It's incredible. 

The blessing and curse of social media :LJ1

     When I first started using social media it was to get my name out there for sports. I had to cater to my audience which was other athletes and coaches. I always was very cautious of what I would post, specifically nothing that could be seen as wrong in the eyes of kids or parents. When I first got to USF and started playing football they made us take a course on social media do's and don'ts which consisted of the same thing just with more rules. We began having to watch for alcohol and what other people are doing in our pictures, if you post anything that was not fitting our brand you would be asked to take it down or talk to a coach about it. 

    When I first started using social media I would strictly post stuff about sports and every once in a while I would post something about school. Now I post whatever I really want, because I believe social media should be an expression of who I am and not just what I do. I post lots of art and cool anime stuff now, and I have realized that people are much more interactive with my profile now than when I was just posting sports. 

    If I could go back I would create and account full of stuff I love instead of just sports, I would try to interact and be more open with the content I post. I also would follow more people who I like instead of athletes and others who I felt I needed to be in the know about. 

Welcome to my Blog

     Hi, my name is Darrien Grant and I am from Sarasota Florida. I'm currently blogging from my sunroom at my apartment in Tampa. My original major was Marketing but I have also completed a post bacc which was Business analytics Information systems. Currently I am non-degree seeking. 

    The first interesting thing I'd say about myself is that I play football here at the university. That is the reason I've been here for five years and have got two degrees. I am hoping to play in the professional league and make a career out of it. Another interesting thing about myself is that I like to hike and do stuff outside. I'd say I probably spend most of my time outdoors. One last interesting thing about myself is that I love to cook and experiment with my cooking, I like to make healthy alternatives to foods I enjoy, such as cheesecake. 

    I haven't had much professional experience because I usually have a very full schedule with football but I currently am working a part time job at Lowe's in the Garden center, again outside, which I enjoy. This is just something extra to add to my resume, because in highschool I did a lot of volunteering. 

    I would have to say that my favorite social media is instagram or twitter. I like instagram because it keeps me updated on my friends and it's where I get a lot of my news from. I enjoy twitter because it's a very funny place and also because it keeps me updated on the news. 

    This is not my first blog, I've created two before. My first blog was of course about football in my local area and my second was about video game/movies. The first was when I was in middle school and i took a technology course. The second blog was when I used to be a twitch streamer before coming to USF. 

    I read a ton of blogs, or even watch a ton of vlogs. I do it to get updates on anything I'm interested in such as the stock market or updates on coding for business. A lot of real estate blogging, and pop culture. 

    I like how blogs can help see the perspective of other people. I really enjoy talking to others and learning about them which is why I enjoy blogs and talking with fans after games.
